God’s Symphony
Picture this: The London Philharmonic.
Savor this (including the screeches):
You are a vessel, an instrument of clay created to be filled with God. He is living His life inside you, unique to you. You are a one-of-a-kind for all eternity.
God is music Himself, and He is doing something in the heavens never before seen or heard. A glory beyond description. God is not going to explain it; He is showing us.
He began with raw materials and formed each vessel in its time throughout history. Each is a very special musical instrument. All the instruments, throughout time, form a great symphony with each a member of the whole.
Once created and fashioned the real fun begins. These instruments are unlike any He will ever create again. They are all like player pianos that write and program into themselves their own scores. However, they cannot do anything without Someone supplying the power for them to play. God will do that.
His real objective is to teach each one of His grand instruments to read and play His music. And so, He begins. What a challenge!
It’s unimaginable.
Here is a picture: a small child who picks up a violin and bow not having any idea what they are. He scrapes the bow across the strings. It screeches! Ugh. But the child is delighted! He made a sound he had never heard, which causes those listening to shiver. The sound goes straight up their spines, like fingernails on a chalkboard.
The child keeps screeching on that violin until a Teacher arrives. Some children take to instruction, and simple melodies start to form, but others seem to like the screeching so ignore the Instructor. The Teacher is unfazed and uses every means to get the children to realize there is so much more to enjoy than screeching sounds. At this time, some just like the fact that they have control of something that makes sounds, and they don’t want anything else, yet.
Other children enjoy the music and press on for more. They begin making something that sounds like music. The sons of screech become jealous as the children of music begin making beautiful sounds. Some sons of screech deal with their brethren by trying to stop the music. The sons of screech would like to make music but don’t want to be taught. They want to do it themselves!
They convince themselves that their screeching is melodious and that everyone else wants to hear it. The screechers refuse to acknowledge the beauty they are beginning to hear in others. In fact, they try to stop those beautiful tunes because they are determined to make others accept their screeches as music.
The children of music are only just learning to play and have yet to discover the types of sounds of which they are capable, especially together. Some tinker on their pianos, others join the Teacher in sound rooms for individual instruction. Some of the screechers form little groups and play their screeches together. These don’t care that their sound is bad. They just want to make noise and force everyone to listen.
But once in a while the Instructor gets the attention of some and they hear a bit of real harmony. These get hooked. But like all children, they face stiff opposition from screechers. There is a disturbing noise that, though not loud, distracts many so they have trouble focusing on what the Instructor is saying. No matter what music any of them are trying to play, it is better than that annoying background noise.
Eventually, a few of the teachable students learn how to make real music, whether by themselves or with a small group. The sounds are beautiful, yet not even close to what is coming. They can’t even imagine it. In fact, they don’t yet know enough to even consider there may be more. They are just happy with their improving sounds.
As the instruction continues, a sound develops that is heavenly compared to anything they have ever heard. These begin to realize what the Instructor is accomplishing. If they fix their attention on His instruction, they will hear something not heard since the beginning of time. This requires allowing the Instructor to teach them to fit into His composition rather than their own, however good that music has been. Then the Instructor begins seeing a new cooperation from His students which creates a new sound. This new sound is not just the students doing what the Instructor has told them but allows Him to fully express His music through them by playing it from within them.
The Instructor continues. He wants His students to enjoy the ease with which He can play these instruments, an ease that makes it seem like they are playing it themselves, when it is Him doing it inside them with them. Amazingly, He cannot play it in them without their cooperation. So, is it Him or them playing such beautiful music? They don’t know or care because each stands in awe of his own transformation. Each discovers their uniqueness, and the glorious sound they are hearing is coming from themselves. They love what they hear from within as well as in the others.
None yet realize what is coming.
As more and more students understand what they have been hearing, more students hear. Gradually, they begin coming together as small ensembles, bands, small orchestras, and finally a symphony orchestra. When each student, including the screechers, is trained, there are billions for His symphony, each a unique instrument capable of perfect harmony with the others. Then… they discover a wonder. As all play together, they hear it! A sound never before heard in all of time or eternity. All know this is what they were created for, and that throughout all ages to come it will continue to grow. They are a symphony unlike anything that any instrument could have ever imagined. They have found the life for which they were created.

Now, savor this, even the screeches:
You are a vessel of clay created to be filled with God, through whom He is going to live His life unique to you. No one else will look like you. So too with all of His other vessels.
God is music Itself, and He is planning something special, never before seen or heard, even in the heavens. A glory beyond anyone’s ability to describe. God can’t even yet explain it to us. He can only show us.
He begins with raw materials. And forms each vessel in its time throughout all of history. Within each one He creates an instrument with members. In fact, the whole is one big instrument and its members just smaller instruments within it.
Once created and fashioned the real work begins. These musical instruments are unlike any He will ever create. They are all kind of like player pianos that can write and program into themselves their own scores. However, they can’t do anything without someone supplying the power for them to play. God will do that.
As the real work begins, His plan is to teach each one of His grand instruments to both write the music they will play, program it into themselves, and play it. And so, He begins. What a challenge. How is He going to do it? Unimaginable.
But, we get little pictures. A small child who picks up a violin not having any idea what it is. He finds a bow and eventually ends up scraping it across the strings. It screeches. Ugh. But, the child is delighted. He has made a sound he never before heard. Of course, others listening shiver. The sound goes straight up their spine, like fingernails on a chalkboard.

Their screeching should be melodious but it isn’t, and they refuse to acknowledge the beauty they are beginning to hear in others. In fact, they try to stop those tunes because they are determined to keep doing what they are doing until it becomes music.
The children of music are only just beginning to learn how to play and have yet to discover the types of sounds of which they are capable, especially together. Some tinker on their pianos, others join the teacher in sound rooms for individual instruction in their instruments. Some of the screechers join little groups and try to play their screeches together. These latter groups don’t care that their sound is bad. Since they don’t yet know what a real tune is like they have no way to realize what they are missing. They are just having fun being together and making noise together.
But, once in a while, the instructor is able to get the attention of one or the other and let them hear a bit of real harmony. These get hooked. But like all the children, there is stiff opposition to them learning such things. Wherever they go, there is a disturbing noise that is not really loud, yet it is so distracting that it hinders their ability to focus on what the Instructor is saying. But regardless of what music they are trying to play, it is better than that background noise, so they all keep playing.
Eventually, a few learn how to make a semblance of a real harmony. They may continue to play by themselves or with a small group. Regardless, the sounds are beautiful, yet, not even close to what is coming. They can’t even imagine it. In fact, they don’t yet know enough to even consider there may be more. They are just happy with their improving sounds.
But, as the Instructor continues training each one, eventually a sound begins to develop that sounds heavenly compared with anything they have heard before. These begin to realize what the Instructor is up to. If they listen and pay attention, fixing their attention on His instruction, they are going to hear something not heard since the beginning of time. But, this is going to require allowing the Instructor to teach them all how to be fit into His composition rather than their own, however good their music has been. And so, the Instructor begins to find a new cooperation from some of His students and begins to create a new sound through them. This new sound isn’t just the students doing what the Instructor has told them but allowing the Instructor to fully express His music through them by literally writing it with them and playing it within their vessels.
The Instructor continues the training. He wants His students to enjoy the ease with which He can play their instruments, an ease that makes the students think they are playing it themselves when in fact it is He doing it in them. But amazingly, He can’t play it in them without their cooperation. So, really, is it Him playing in them, or is it them playing? They don’t know or care because each stands in awe of his own transformation. Each discovers they are so unique, and the glorious sound they are hearing is coming from themselves. They love what they hear in themselves as well as what they hear in the other students.
Yet none still realizes what is coming.
As more and more students understand what they have been hearing in their fellow students, even more and more students hear, also. Gradually, they begin coming together as small ensembles, then bands, then orchestras followed by little symphonies. When the Instructor has finally trained each student, even the ones who preferred to screech, billions and billions of vessels created throughout time, each a unique instrument with a sound distinct from the others yet capable of perfect harmony with them, they begin to discover a wonder. As they start to hear their own different sounds which they had been created to produce separately, yet together, they suddenly hear it. A sound never before uttered in all of time or eternity. (I say uttered because there is no word capable of summing up what they hear or from where it is coming It fills up everything.) And all know, this is what they were created for, and throughout all ages to come it will continue to grow. They are a symphony unlike anything that any instrument could have ever imagined. They have found the life for which they were created.
